WORLD CONGRESS MAGRAMA-FAO-CONXEMAR
Tomorrow begins in Vigo ,I INTERNATIONAL FISHERIES STAKEHOLDERS FORUM & 20th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT (FAO)
Ocean Vision Group will be represented by Miguel Ozores Masso in this event, The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is extremely pleased to be partnered with The Ministry for Agriculture, Food and Environment of Spain and Conxemar at this year’s event to celebrate the twenty year anniversary of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries.
The Code of Conduct was drafted by 170 nations, negotiated at FAO, and unanimously adopted by member states at the FAO Conference in October 1995. The Code has adapted to changes in fisheries and aquaculture over the past two decades, with subsequent instruments and guidelines adopted to support it, including the various International Plans of Actions, instruments to fight against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, ecolabeling for certification, and guidelines on small-scale fisheries.
The issues of sustainability of our fisheries resources and ensuring food security for our growing world population are more important than ever before both to the seafood industry and to policymakers. FAO is pleased to be in Vigo to celebrate alongside industry what has been achieved during the first twenty years of the Code, and outlining our main challenges and aspirations for the next twenty years.
